The CV builder walks you through your resume section by section and saves automatically as you type.
Creating a resume
From CV Builder in the dashboard, click New resume. A panel opens on the right where you give the resume a name (required) and pick a starting template. Creating opens the new resume in the builder immediately. You can also duplicate an existing resume with the Duplicate action. Your resumes are listed as cards or rows, with a completion percentage so you can see how complete each one is.
The wizard
Each step covers one part of the resume. The sidebar stepper shows your progress, and the footer lets you move Back / Next or finish early.
- Personal information — name, headline, contact details, location, and social/website links.
- Professional summary — your opening summary, plus the optional career narrative.
- Experience, Projects, Education, and Certifications — structured entries with role, organization, dates, and bullet points.
- Skills, Languages, Publications, Volunteering, Awards, References, and Interests — the supporting sections.
- Custom sections — add your own sections as needed.
Steps are validated as you go. Missing optional fields don't block navigation; genuinely malformed values (like an unsafe link) show a clear error.
The header
The builder header shows your resume's status (Draft / Active / Archived), a save indicator (Saving… / Saved at time / Save failed), and your completion count. Use Back to return to the CV Builder dashboard.
Active resumes
Mark a resume Active to make it your primary CV. The Free plan allows one active resume at a time — promoting another sets the previous one back to Draft. On Pro, enable Allow multiple active resumes under Data and Settings to keep several active at once; turning it off again keeps one active and sets the rest to Draft. See Data and Settings.
Templates & accent
Open Review & Export and use the Template card to switch between templates. The accent color picker themes the template to match your style, and the live preview updates instantly.
Layout & summary
The Layout card in Review & Export controls the document's structure:
- Summary — show or hide the Professional summary and Career narrative independently. The career narrative renders inside the Summary section, so hiding Summary hides both.
- Side-by-side sections — place compact sections (Skills, Languages, Certifications, Publications, Volunteering, Awards, References, Interests) in 2 or 3 columns. Consecutive sections with the same setting share a row; a section left alone stays full width.
- Manage section order & visibility — opens the Versions panel, where you reorder and hide sections.
Layout choices are saved per version and are reflected in the preview and in the PDF and DOCX exports.
Versions & tailoring
Use the Versions panel to create tailored versions of one resume — for example a version aimed at product roles and another for management. Each version can have its own template, section order, hidden sections, and tailored summary. See Resume versions.
Autosave
Every change is autosaved (debounced a fraction of a second) straight to your account. Press Ctrl/Cmd + S in the wizard to save immediately. If a save ever fails, the header shows Save failed so you can retry before leaving the page.
