The Cover Letter Checklist gives you structured feedback on your cover letter — five sub-scores across the key dimensions, plus prioritized improvements — all analyzed locally in your browser.
What it does
Paste your cover letter text and optionally add the role title and company name for better context. The checklist evaluates your letter against five criteria: opening strength, relevance to the role, achievement evidence, clarity, and closing impact. Each criterion gets a score, and the tool highlights strengths and next improvements.
How to use it
- Go to the Cover Letter Checklist.
- Paste your cover letter text in the main field.
- Optionally fill in the Role and Company fields — this helps the relevance scoring adjust to the specific position.
- Click Analyze cover letter.
- Review the overall score, the five sub-scores, strengths, improvements, and what to fix next.
The analysis runs entirely in your browser. No text is uploaded.
What the report shows
- Opening score — rewards a personalized first line. It rises when you name the company or role and include a relevant intent word; a generic opening still scores, but naming the company or role raises it.
- Relevance score — checks how well your letter connects to the role. When role and company are provided, the tool looks for direct references and alignment with the position.
- Achievement score — identifies whether you include quantified accomplishments or concrete results, not just responsibilities.
- Clarity score — checks average sentence length and paragraph structure; long, dense prose lowers it.
- Closing score — assesses whether your closing is confident, specific, and includes a clear next step.
- Overall score — a weighted average of the five dimensions.
- Strengths — elements of your letter that already work well.
- Improvements — prioritized suggestions for what to change, with explanations.
- What to fix next — the single change that would improve your letter the most.
Privacy
All analysis runs locally in your browser. Your cover letter text, role, and company information are never uploaded, transmitted, or stored. Close the tab and everything is gone.
Limitations
This is heuristic analysis, not AI. The scores are based on pattern matching and writing conventions — they catch structural and stylistic issues but do not evaluate tone, personality, or strategic positioning the way a human reader would.
Adding role and company context improves relevance scoring because the tool can check for direct alignment. Without that context, relevance scoring falls back to general conventions.
