Interview prep turns a scheduled interview into a focused plan. Each interview you create from the Job Tracker gets its own workspace where you review the role, prepare answers, rehearse, and link everything back to the evidence in your Career Vault.
Find it under Interview Prep in the sidebar (/dashboard/interview-prep). The section has three parts:
- Dashboard — every interview and how ready you are.
- Workspace — one interview in depth: checklist, questions, stories, and notes.
- Question Library — reusable question packs you can add to any interview.
Interviews, answers, and stories are private to your account. Everything in the workspace autosaves as you type — there is no save button.
Free plan limits
Interview Prep is fully usable on the Free plan, with four caps. Pro removes them.
| Limit | Free | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Active interview workspaces | 2 | Unlimited |
| Questions per interview | 10 | Unlimited |
| Custom question packs | 1 | Unlimited |
| Saved library questions | 10 | Unlimited |
Only interviews with the Scheduled or Rescheduled status count as active. Completed and cancelled interviews do not use a slot, so you can keep preparing for your next interview.
Everything else is included on Free: all 15 built-in role packs, practice mode, the preparation checklist, notes, readiness scoring, and Interview Story links.
When you reach a cap, existing interviews, questions, packs, and saved questions stay available — you can open, edit, practise, and delete them. To add more, free a slot (complete or cancel an interview, or delete a pack or saved question) or upgrade to Pro from Account → Billing or the Pricing page.
Create an interview
Interviews always belong to a job application:
- Open the Job Tracker and open an application.
- Choose Prepare for Interview.
- Talent & Story creates a preparation workspace linked to that application and opens it.
The interview inherits the company and role from the application, so your questions, stories, and notes stay tied to the right opportunity.
On Free, you can have two active workspaces at once. If both are scheduled or rescheduled, complete or cancel one before creating another. See Free plan limits above.
The dashboard
The dashboard (/dashboard/interview-prep) is your interview overview:
- Upcoming, In preparation, and Ready counts at the top.
- Upcoming interviews (scheduled or rescheduled), soonest first.
- Past interviews (completed or cancelled).
Each card shows the company and role, the date and type, a preparation bar, and how many checklist items and questions are done. From a card you can change the status, open the workspace, or delete the interview.
Deleting an interview removes its workspace, questions, and story links. The job application itself is not changed.
The workspace
Open an interview to work through it. The workspace is organised into four tabs:
| Tab | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Overview | Interview details, your "Tell me about yourself" pitch, the preparation checklist, and links to your documents and the job listing. |
| Questions | This interview's question set — draft and rehearse your answers. |
| Interview Stories | Your Career Vault stories, matched to the questions. |
| Notes | Free-form notes to capture anything else. |
Everything autosaves, and the header shows your current readiness.
Overview
Set up the practical details and your opening pitch:
- Interview information — date and time, type (phone, video, onsite, technical, behavioral, final, or other), status, and the interviewer's name.
- "Tell me about yourself" — a 60–90 second pitch you can rehearse out loud.
- Preparation checklist — the ten steps below, with the next unfinished item highlighted as Next up.
- Your resources — quick links to your CV, cover letter, Career Vault, and the job listing.
- Job information — the company, position, and application status, with the job description available to expand (if you saved one in the Application Kit).
The preparation checklist
Ten items cover a complete preparation loop:
- Review the job description
- Research the company
- Prepare "Tell me about yourself"
- Prepare STAR stories
- Review likely interview questions
- Practice answers
- Prepare questions for the interviewer
- Review your CV
- Review relevant achievements
- Final interview preparation
Checking items off raises your readiness and updates Next up on the Overview tab.
Questions
Each interview has its own question set. Add questions however suits you:
Free includes 10 questions per interview; Pro is unlimited. See Free plan limits above.
- Manually — type a question and choose a category.
- From a pack — pick a role pack, one of your own packs, or your saved questions. Add a whole pack or select individual questions; questions already in the interview are skipped.
- Saved to your library — save any question to My questions to reuse it later.
The question list
Every question is a compact row showing its position, the question text, its category and status, and quick flags when it has a linked story, linked achievements, or a drafted answer. Use the search box and the status filters (All, To practise, Practising, Mastered) to find questions, and watch the prepared bar in the header.
Click a row to expand it into a focused workspace:
- Answer (left) — draft and refine your answer. Answers autosave as you type.
- Interview story (right) — the linked story, shown by title; expand it to read the STAR details, change it, or unlink it.
- Achievements (right) — linked Career Vault achievements, expandable to their full descriptions, with a picker to link more.
The ⋮ menu on each row lets you edit the question, save it to your library, or delete it.
Categories and status
Every question has a category and a practice status:
| Field | Values |
|---|---|
| Category | Behavioral, Role-specific, Situational, Custom |
| Status | Not started → Practicing → Mastered |
Update the status as you work: Not started until you begin, Practicing while you refine, and Mastered when you can deliver it confidently. Status feeds your readiness score.
Reorder questions
Questions are grouped by the pack they came from. To change the order, use the up/down arrows or pick an exact position from the dropdown. Reordering is available when the status filter is set to All. To clear a whole pack at once, use Delete all from pack.
Practise
Choose Practise to rehearse. Practice mode shows one question at a time:
- Read the question and answer out loud from memory.
- Choose Show answer to reveal your drafted answer and any linked story.
- Rate how it went — Again, Good, or Mastered — which updates the question's status and moves you to the next one.
The Question Library
The Question Library holds reusable questions, separate from any single interview:
All 15 role packs are available on every plan. On Free, you can also create 1 custom pack and save 10 library questions. See Free plan limits above.
- Role packs — 15 curated sets: General, Software Engineer, Frontend Developer, Backend Developer, Data Analyst, Data Scientist, Product Manager, Project Manager, UX / Product Designer, Marketing Manager, Sales/Account Executive, Customer Success, Finance/Accounting, Human Resources, and Operations.
- My packs — your own packs. Create a blank one, add questions (paste several lines to add them all at once), rename or edit it later, or duplicate any role pack and adapt it.
- My questions — individual questions you've saved from your interviews.
Open a pack and choose Add to interview to apply its questions to any interview. Packs contain only questions, so they stay reusable across every role you apply for.
Interview Stories
The Interview Stories tab lists every story in your Career Vault. Create a story from any achievement (choose Create My Story), and it appears here.
Link a story to the questions it answers best so your strongest examples are ready during practice:
- Link, change, or unlink a story from a question's expanded Interview story panel.
- The tab shows how many questions each story is linked to.
- Deleting a story in the Career Vault simply removes the link here — the question and your answer stay.
Readiness score
Your readiness blends the checklist and your question set:
| Component | Weight |
|---|---|
| Preparation checklist | 60% |
| Questions | 40% |
Within the questions, a Mastered question counts fully and a Practicing one counts half. The dashboard labels each interview:
| Label | When |
|---|---|
| Not started | Readiness is 0%. |
| In progress | Readiness is 1–79%. |
| Ready | Readiness is 80% or higher, with at least one question in the set. |
The checklist alone caps at 60%, so an interview can't be Ready without at least one question.
Tips
- Keep your "Tell me about yourself" under 90 seconds, and rehearse it out loud.
- Write answers before you practise them — a written STAR answer is easier to tighten than an improvised one.
- Link a story to the few questions it answers best, not to every question.
- Add the questions you're most worried about first, then use the To practise filter to see what's left.
