About this tool
What the keyword matcher does
Most applications are screened for relevance to the job description before anyone reads them closely. The keyword matcher compares your resume with a specific posting, shows which recognized skills and terms you already cover, and lists the gaps worth addressing. It is a comparison tool — it never rewrites your experience or invents qualifications.
What it compares
- Matched keywords — the role skills and tools your resume already mentions.
- Missing keywords — concrete, job-relevant terms that do not appear in your text.
- Category context — gaps grouped by area such as data, engineering, or design.
- Soft-skill signals — professional skills the posting emphasizes, kept separate from hard requirements.

Use it in three steps
Add your resume
Paste the version of your resume you intend to send for this specific role.
Add the job description
Paste the posting so the tool can compare its language with the language in your resume.
Close the keyword gaps
Review the missing keywords, weave the relevant ones into your achievements, and run the comparison again.
Going deeper
Getting the most from the keyword matcher
Use it to see how closely a resume mirrors a specific posting — then decide, honestly, which gaps are worth closing.
Who it's for
- You found a role you actually want and are tailoring a resume to it.
- You keep applying and hearing nothing back, and want to check your relevance signals.
- You are comparing similar postings to see which skills they share.
Worked example
Before
Worked on the website and helped improve performance.
After
Improved page load time by 40% with React and Next.js, lifting conversion 12%.
Common mistakes
- Pasting every keyword from the posting, even ones you cannot support.
- Treating a low score as a rejection instead of a working list of things to address.
- Comparing a generic resume instead of the version you actually plan to send.
How it works
The matcher extracts the terms a posting names from a curated skill dictionary, then checks which already appear anywhere in your resume. Missing terms become prioritized, actionable items. Soft skills are reported separately because they are signals to reflect, not keywords to bolt on. Only dictionary terms are scored; synonyms and seniority are not.
Keyword matcher FAQ
Is the keyword matcher free?
Yes. It is free, requires no account, and runs entirely in your browser — neither your resume nor the job description is uploaded or stored.
Should I add every missing keyword?
No. Only add a keyword when it truthfully describes your experience. The tool helps you spot relevant terms; it does not tell you to keyword-stuff or claim skills you do not have.
How is the match score calculated?
The score reflects how much of the posting's recognized, concrete requirements your resume covers. It is a relevance signal, not a prediction about hiring.
